LONDON, April 24 (Xinhua) -- The London stock market lost ground in trading by Thursday midday as updates from house builders and drugs firms reflected the tougher economic climate.

The benchmark FTSE 100 index was down 115.90 points, or 1.91 percent, at 5,967.
Persimmon dropped 8.2 percent to 596.5 pence after reporting a sharp fall in sales of new properties so far this year.
After reporting a 15 percent fall in quarterly profits, Astra Zeneca shares fell 5.2 percent.
A day after facing shareholder anger over its planned 12-billion-pound (about 24 billion U.S. dollars) rights issue, the Royal Bank of Scotland's shares slipped 3.9 percent to 331.5 pence.
