Do you manufacture fishing rods

First of all: Do you manufacture fishing rods? If so, please keep reading!

I'm developing a med-tech aid for people in wheelchairs, who have poor core strength, and consequently no upper body balance. The name of this product is LABDO™. It consists of a couple of elastic rods, mounted on the back of a wheelchair. The wheelchair user puts straps around the shoulders, and gets safe and balanced.  

I've attached a video and still images, so that you can see how LABDO™ is supposed to look, and how it will be connected to the wheelchair. Please note that these 3D graphics are not 100% correct. The rods in the model are too thick. In reality they will be more like fishing rods.

The rods are the most important part of this innovation! They need to be very strong, to hold the user's upper body when s/he leans forward. Of course, they also need to be very bendable and flexible. I'm building a prototype, and I've actually used pieces of fishing rods.

Here's my question to you. I want to make these rods telescopic, so that they can be pushed down, and not stick out. Can that be done, while keeping the strength and the elasticity needed for the purpose of this invention?
